FareShare South West

FareShare South West is the region's largest food redistribution charity, with warehouses in Plymouth and Bristol. They do an incredible job of joining the dots between food waste and hunger by redistributing thousands of tonnes of good-quality surplus food every year to frontline charities, schools, and community groups across the South West.

 

Every week, FareShare South West's volunteers sort and pack tonnes of fruit, vegetables, dairy, meat, and tinned and dried food into crates and load them into the fleet of vans. From there, they deliver to homelessness shelters, drug and alcohol rehab units, day centers for older people, and school breakfast clubs, and beyond! These organisations use the food FareShare South West delivers to provide meals and food parcels for people who can't afford to buy food.

 

Three million tonnes of good to eat food are wasted across the food industry in the UK each year. That's enough to produce 7 billion meals. Meanwhile, 14 million people in the UK struggle to get enough to eat, including four million children. FareShare South West fights hunger while tackling food waste. Together, they transform an environmental problem into a social solution.

 

The work that FareShare South West does is truly remarkable. We all have a responsibility to ensure that we do not waste food, and that we make sure that people who need it get access to it. FareShare South West does this by redistributing food that would otherwise go to waste, and in doing so, they are able to provide meals for millions of people in need.

 

Last year, FareShare South West saved 1329 tonnes of food, provided over 3 million meals.. They reached nearly 50,000 vulnerable people, and these numbers are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the impact they are having.
